Programma
The lecture will cover the basic functionality of the human visual system and the reasons for which an engineer might be interested in studying them. Also, the lessons we learn and how we try to imitate and use them in creating artificial vision systems. Some examples of where we use such approaches will be shown, and how we deal with pixels that are not on rectangular coordinates will be explained, inspired from the fact that the human visual system does not use a rectangular sampling grid. Then the lecture will discuss the limitations of the human visual system and how image processing tries to overcome them. Examples from oil exploration and medical image processes will be presented.
